Transfer News: Christian Eriksen set to snub Manchester United contract offer

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Christian Eriksen would prefer a stay in London rather than a transfer to Manchester United at this moment.

Eriksen has shown he still has what it takes to play in England’s top-level since his comeback to the Premier League following a stint out following a heart attack a little over six months ago,

Brentford, Manchester United, and his previous club Tottenham Hotspur are all interested in signing the Denmark international on a permanent basis following his successful return to the Premier League.

Eriksen is a priority target for new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag, who wants to enhance his midfield options this summer. Manchester United announced the departure of 11 first-team players earlier this month, including midfielders Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, and Juan Mata.

United are in negotiations with Barcelona about signing Frenkie de Jong of the Netherlands, but with the number of players who have departed Old Trafford this month, Ten Hag might bring in two midfielders this summer.

However, now it is believed that the veteran midfielder is set to turn down the opportunity to play with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford as he would like to stay in London. United aren’t renowned for doing business smartly but signing a free agent like Eriksen is a no-brainer.

Unfortunately, it appears that Eriksen will not be wearing the red shirt for United, and with the midfielder preferring Brentford, it is a painful reminder of the times at Old Trafford.

Of course, the allure of London is strong, but Eriksen is the consummate professional who would undoubtedly prioritise competition over ten Hag, at least while he is still able to provide his peak performance.

As a result, if he is serious about not joining ten Hag, it will only be a matter of time before he returns to Spurs as he would get to reunite with former teammates and former manager.
