Manchester United could sign Watford star Daniel Bachmann on a cut-price deal to replace Dean Henderson
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Manchester United have been handed an opportunity as they could sign Watford star Daniel Bachmann on a cut-price deal this summer. He is being lined up as a potential replacement for 25-year-old Dean Henderson, who is set to leave Old Trafford ahead of the next season.
Bachmann’s future is surrounded by uncertainty at this moment after the Hornets signed Maduka Okoye for the starting spot. In such a case, playing second fiddle at a bigger club would probably be a more attractive proposition than fighting it out in the Championship. Hence, Man United could be given a chance to raid Vicarage Road this summer.
The Red Devils have considered Bachmann as one of their options to replace Henderson as the backup shot-stopper. He is likely to cost only a fee between £2million and £4million despite having a contract that lasts for two more years. Perhaps that could be down to their relegation, which certainly favours the Premier League side.
Bachmann to Man Utd?
Henderson is currently being linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, which certainly opens up the need to bring in a backup keeper this summer. Bachmann could be a solid addition, especially looking at the relatively low fee that we would probably incur for securing his signature.
Tom Heaton is an option but depending on him for the cup competitions does not exactly fill the fans with confidence as of now. In such a case, perhaps it would be best if a potential move is being contemplated for Bachmann as he could prove to be a necessity under the current circumstances.
Signing Bachmann on such a meagre amount looks to be a solid opportunity indeed, but perhaps we can even haggle to pay the lowest amount possible following Watford’s relegation. Being just 27 years of age, he would also offer long-term security and would have enough time to return the investment that we make should that take place this summer.

Unfortunately for us, the Austrian goalkeeper is currently focused on impressing his coaches about deserving a starting spot in the team. While that remains a possibility, Rob Edwards’s side did sign Okoye for that role, so we may need to worry about that scenario for now.
Then again, Bachmann is one of the options on the shortlist, so it remains to be seen whom the other targets are moving forward. The board must discuss the matter with Erik ten Hag first to see if the shot-stopper would fall into the boss’ plans before going down this route.
