Transfer News: Manchester United consider Vitinha as a Frenkie de Jong alternative

According to the Mirror, Manchester United have been offered Porto midfielder Vitinha who they would consider as an alternative to Barcelona superstar Frenkie de Jong ahead of the summer.

Vitinha joined Porto in 2013 and has since then gone on to develop, grow and perform at every youth level at the Portuguese giants before eventually breaking into the first team in 2020. He spent a year out on loan at Wolves last season and has been a key part of the Porto team this time around.

The 22-year-old has played 47 times for Sergio Conceicao’s side this season scoring four goals and providing five assists across all competitions. Such numbers have not gone unnoticed with clubs in Europe taking interest in the Portuguese.

Manchester United have been in the pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong to no avail and Vitinha offers them an alternative if they fail to land the Dutchman.

Talented alternative?

It is absolutely no secret right now as to who Man United’s preferred option in midfield is ahead of next season but a deal for the Barcelona man is complicated.

In Vitinha, the Red Devils could get a similar yet less proven player who can play the same role that the Dutchman is expected to play at Old Trafford. At 22, the Portuguese midfielder could prove his calibre here at Man United.

Interestingly enough, both players have identical stats in terms of goals and assists this season in an almost similar number of games this season. Whilst numbers can be misleading, it could be an indication that Vitinha indeed will be an able alternative.

Having players like Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Diogo Dalot in the squad means they would be able to help Vitinha to settle in at Old Trafford, a task that players coming from a foreign league generally struggle to pull off.

We must still pursue to pull off a deal for Frenkie de Jong as much as we can. If we fail to get him though, then Vitinha offers us a very talented alternative.
