Arsenal enter the race for Manchester United target Marco Asensio
According to transfer news from Marca, Arsenal are keen to snatch away the signing of Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio from Manchester United.
Since joining Real Madrid from RCD Mallorca a few years ago, Marco Asensio has shown a lot of promise. However, a long-term knee injury slowed his growth significantly, but he did well to regain some form in the 2021/22 season. The 26-year-old, however, is dissatisfied with his current status at Real Madrid, where he is not the unquestioned first-choice attacker.
In 42 appearances in all competitions, the Spanish international scored 12 goals and added two assists, contributing to Real Madrid’s La Liga championship. However, with Asensio’s contract set to expire in July, Real Madrid will be concerned about his long-term future.
In recent months, Manchester United have been linked with the Spaniard couple of times. However, it seems the Red Devils will not be the only Premier League club battling for Asensio’s signing, as Arsenal has also entered the battle.
It is also believed that any interested parties would have to pay at least €50 million (£42.66 million) to secure the signature of the Los Blancos forward.
Mason Greenwood’s off-field concerns have kept him out permanently, while Anthony Martial appears to have no future at Manchester United. On top of that Edinson Cavani will leave the club soon. The Red Devils will need to bring in a player who is a natural in the position to remedy the club’s long-standing right-wing difficulties, which makes Asensio a realistic option.
The development of talks between Manchester United and Mendes will be intriguing to watch, while the two sides’ solid connections should ensure easy negotiations. It remains to be seen whether Manchester United is willing to pay €50 million to get Asensio away from Real Madrid.
