Transfer News: Manchester United ‘favourites’ to land Pau Torres in the summer
According to transfer news from La Razón, Manchester United are the frontrunner to complete the signing of Villarreal defender Pau Torres in the following summer window.
Erik ten Hag has already said his goodbyes to a slew of free agents at Old Trafford, with more on the way before the start of the 2022-23 season. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Lee Grant, Nemanja Matic, and Juan Mata are among the six senior players who have left the club on free transfers.
Several peripheral players are expected to leave during the summer transfer window, prompting Ten Hag to look for improvements in all areas of the field before his debut season.
Following another great season both domestically and in Europe, Pau Torres has emerged as a transfer target for Manchester United this summer. Considering the Spanish international is left-footed, he could come in handy.

However, La Razón says Manchester United are heavy favourites to complete the transfer as the Red Devils are looking to strike a deal with Villareal worth €50m for the 25-year-old central defender.
Given how uneven his current crop of choices has been in recent months, ten Hag will be eager to add someone like Torres to his backcourt. Harry Maguire, the club captain, has been the most disappointing of the four, making schoolboy blunders on the pitch that have resulted in some easy goals being allowed.
Raphael Varane was brought in from Real Madrid last summer to strengthen the defensive line, but his injury problems this season have made it difficult for him to fit in. Victor Lindelof, on the other hand, was shuffled in and out of the team throughout the season, unable to establish any consistency.
Despite the fact that Phil Jones and Eric Bailly were available, they were hardly used. The duo was mostly employed in domestic cup events, but with the Red Devils failing to go far in both the League Cup and FA Cup, they were rarely given many minutes on the pitch.

Torres’ accomplishments this season make him a good candidate to join ten Hag’s new-look club next season. If the current reports are true, the Red Devils may be closer to completing the deal than it looks, and they should pursue it.
