Manchester United reject Tottenham Hotspur transfer advances for Marcus Rashford
According to The Times (Subscription Required), Manchester United have rejected the advances from Tottenham Hotspur for signing Marcus Rashford on a potential transfer this summer. Despite his poor 2021-22 season, it looks like he is still rated by the rivals, which has resulted in an attempt to secure his services.
Rashford endured a difficult campaign last time around, but he wants to turn things around under Erik ten Hag. Tottenham eyed him due to his flexibility to play anywhere in the attack, his homegrown status, and his one year contract at Man United. Furthermore, they were optimistic that his form could have been improved, but it seems like they will not get an opportunity at all.
The Red Devils have turned down Spurs’ attempt and responded by conveying that the England international wants to remain at Old Trafford and convince ten Hag of his qualities. Furthermore, there are plans to renew the forward’s deal in the summer transfer window.
What’s next for Rashford?
It can be argued that Rashford had his worst ever campaign donning the Man United shirt in the last season. He never seemed to string a series of strong performances for us apart from a couple here and there during that period. His displays were even frustrating at one point, which seriously left him on the bad side of the supporters.
It is quite surprising, to say the least, how the 24-year-old followed up with a disastrous campaign after his impressive Euro 2020 and the 2020-21 season, which had some of the best spells of his playing career so far. Ever since he returned from the shoulder surgery last summer, Rashford never looked to be razor-sharp as he did in the past.
Then again, it would be very reactionary to deem the Premier League ace dispensable when he still has a long career ahead of him. That is especially the case when we are bound to lose Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard for free this summer. Their exits would reduce the depth on the frontline, and selling Rashford would not have made sense at this moment.

Furthermore, Antony Martial’s future remains uncertain, while Mason Greenwood is suspended indefinitely right now. In such a case, losing Rashford would have added more trouble, especially when ten Hag seems to have plans for some underperforming players moving forward.
With pre-season drawing close by each passing day, it would be best to let Rashford stay and see whether ten Hag can help him find his feet once again. That would be in our best interest, so this rebuttal of Tottenham’s transfer attempt can be considered one of the few good decisions taken by the hierarchy in recent times.
