Real Madrid beat Manchester United to win Aurelien Tchouameni transfer race

According to The Athletic, Real Madrid have won the race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni on a potential transfer ahead of Manchester United. Los Blancos reached a verbal agreement with AS Monaco regarding his move ahead of the upcoming season.

Real and Monaco are currently working on the final details to complete the transfer move for Tchouameni. Once that is done, he will sign a new contract with the Spanish giants, with an announcement set to be made shortly after in the coming days.

The French international recently made up his mind to move to Santiago Bernabeu despite interest from Man United. Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain also wanted to secure the midfielder’s signature but to no avail in the end. Tchouameni will cost the Madrid club more than €100million in transfer fees, and his signing is a major statement indeed.

Damning blow but expected

It would have been a miracle, to be honest, if we somehow beat off the competition to sign a highly rated prodigy like Tchouameni. After all, he is still making strides in his playing career and has already become a regular for club and country.

In fact, arguments can be made that the 22-year-old is among the best in his positions in world football right now. We would have been greatly boosted by Tchouameni’s arrival to Old Trafford, as he would have been perfect for us under the current circumstances.

After all, we are bound to have no natural options in the defensive midfield role, as Nemanja Matic will be leaving this summer. That puts us in a precarious situation, which could have been negated by Tchouameni’s arrival. Unfortunately, our current circumstances prevent us from attracting top talents like him, especially when clubs like PSG and Los Blancos are in the fray.

Now that the Red Devils have a clear idea about Tchouameni’s situation, they must no longer waste their time and efforts in this pursuit. Now, they must do their best to address the issue in the holding midfield role by signing someone who can come in and uplift our declined squad.

The likes of Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, Edson Alvarez of Ajax, and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ruben Neves have been touted as some of the potential targets for this summer. All of them are quality choices indeed, but whether we can sign any of them or someone else remains to be seen.
