PSG pose new competition for Manchester United in Frenkie de Jong transfer race

According to ESPN, PSG have now entered the race for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong amidst interest from Manchester United for a potential transfer. He has been linked with an exit from Camp Nou despite being a key player for them since leaving Ajax back in 2019.

Barca are looking to raise £70million in funds to facilitate their business in the summer transfer window. As such, they have offered de Jong to most major clubs across Europe to meet their needs. Man United have been one of them, and they have already accepted the proposal.

Now, Paris Saint-Germain have shown a positive response and have joined the pursuit of the Dutchman. This update would undoubtedly be a blow for the Red Devils, who are keen to sign him this summer. It would add to the obstacles that the English side must overcome with the midfielder believed to be wanting to remain with the Catalans regardless of their intentions to keep or sell him.

Major concern for Man Utd

This new piece of information could potentially determine our fate in the pursuit of securing the 25-year-old’s signature. After all, it has been claimed that while de Jong would much rather stay with the Blaugrana side, he would at least want to join a team that can offer him Champions League football in case of an exit.

In such a situation, the Ligue 1 outfit’s entry would be more than problematic for the Mancunians, even if the latter are leading the race at this instant. That being said, the English side would be relieved to know that another one of their potential competitors in Manchester City have turned down the La Liga side’s offer to sell de Jong.

Then again, we have to be on our toes at all times since the other major clubs across Europe are yet to respond to the proposal leaving us in a bit of a concerned state for the moment. New entries would potentially complicate things even further if they are playing in the Champions League next season.

Fortunately, the French giants’ interest appears to be in the early stages as they are trailing us right now. As such, we must do our best in the coming days to convince the La Liga ace about moving to Old Trafford. Perhaps Erik ten Hag, who was his former manager, could play a part in helping us with this case.

Then again, since it is stated that de Jong is eager to remain with Xavi Hernandez’s side, perhaps it would be best to not waste our efforts for too long this summer. There is an urgent need to bring in midfielders to bolster our ranks which means that it would be wise to pursue players who would want to join us, unlike the case with the Dutch international.
