Manchester United preparing to place transfer bid for Sporting star Goncalo Inacio

According to the Portuguese newspaper A Bola [Print Edition] (h/t The Express), Manchester United are preparing to table a bid to facilitate a transfer for Sporting star Goncalo Inacio this summer. He has attracted interest from several other Premier League sides due to his splendid performances ahead of the next season.

Man United are planning to support Erik ten Hag in the market by signing defenders as he wants to improve his backline. Inacio is one of the options on their list, and it seems that they are looking to make the first step towards completing a move in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have readied a £34.1million offer with another £4.3million as bonuses to convince the Primeira Liga outfit to sell the Portuguese centre-back. The former also face competition from Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers but would probably remain unconcerned since they are in the pole position right now.

Inacio, a summer signing for Man Utd?

The need to bring in central defenders is at an all-time high at this moment. After all, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe will leave Old Trafford this summer, having fallen out of favour over the years. Phil Jones could also be on a similar boat as he is well past his best days for us.

Their departures would leave spots that must be filled to maintain a reasonable depth in the defender, which is where Inacio could come in. In fact, the 20-year-old could even be in contention to earn a starting berth if he can replicate his promise in Manchester should he decide to join us.

That is a possibility when our other starters like Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof have not performed at their best either. Prising away Inacio would probably secure our long-term future, considering how he still has vast potential left in his bag even now.

Furthermore, we do not need to worry about Wolves or Newcastle piping us anytime soon as they remain unattractive destinations to Inacio due to their stature. The centre-half wants to join a team that can challenge for major trophies, which puts us in contention ahead of our rivals.

That being said, we are not in the best place to guarantee any genuine chance of winning titles either, having failed to win one in a long time. However, the fans are optimistic that with the right backing, ten Hag can help them reach that stage in the future and signing Inacio could be one of the steps to achieving that goal.
