Chelsea set to open contract talks with Mason Mount amidst Manchester United transfer interest

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Chelsea are planning to begin talks with Mason Mount over a contract extension as soon as possible amidst interest from Manchester United.

According to The Scottish Sun, Manchester United have expressed their interest in signing Mount on a shock transfer move this summer.

Mount is one of the lowest earners in the Blues squad at this moment, with his current wages of £80,000-a-week being quite meagre for a man of his quality. Erik ten Hag is eager to get his hands on the midfielder with his entourage being aware of Man United’s interest.

That being said, a stay at Stamford Bridge seems to be the priority, with Liverpool and Manchester City also making discrete advances from this side. Now, Romano has revealed that the West Londoners are plotting to restart negotiations regarding a renewal after the England international saw no movement in the past few months.

Is Mount to Man Utd even possible?

Prising away one of the key stars from the direct rivals is always a difficult task indeed, which seriously casts doubts on our chances of signing him this summer. That is especially the case when the 23-year-old is under contract with Thomas Tuchel’s side until 2024.

That is the reason why the London-based club are unconcerned about this situation right now, having declared Mount’s renewal as one of their many priorities. In such a case, perhaps it would be best to focus our attention on other targets who are more accessible as of now.

We could continue to monitor the Blues ace’s situation and see how the talks develop for now. If there is an opportunity for us to make our case, then the board must do their best to bring Mount to Old Trafford. After all, that would be the best way to support ten Hag moving forward.

However, unless Mount himself pushes for an exit in the future, it is quite difficult to see us having any opportunities to secure his signature. It remains to be seen how this situation will pan out in the coming weeks ahead of the summer transfer window.

Mount has often been utilised in midfield in the past, although he has played more in the attack under Tuchel for quite some time. As such, he would be a great asset indeed to add to our declined ranks but let’s not keep our hopes up about this matter unless we receive updates from more reliable sources.
