Manchester United accelerate transfer talks with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong move
According to Alex Crook of talkSPORT, as quoted by mufcmpb on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have decided to accelerate talks with Barcelona for the services of Frenkie de Jong on a potential transfer move. The former are planning to strengthen their midfield by reuniting him with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
Man United have continued their pursuit of de Jong as they look to sign him to add to their squad before the next season. They are not deterred by his admission, having made it clear that he has no intentions to leave Camp Nou at this moment. They have now raised their efforts to reach an agreement with Barca regarding a potential move.
The Dutch international’s recent performance in the 4-1 victory over Belgium for his national team would have given further assurances to the Red Devils. After all, de Jong’s impressive display highlighted how he would suit them in their double pivot system.
Would Man Utd succeed in this attempt?
It is well-documented how the Catalans are struggling to manage their books of accounts at this moment. As such, they are desperate to part ways with some of their players to raise some much-needed funds, with the 25-year-old being one of the most prized assets who can bring in enough money.
Hence, the Blaugrana side is hoping that the Manchester club will put in a substantial offer for the La Liga ace ahead of the next campaign. The former value him at a fee of around £80million for his signature, which is quite expensive, although it certainly matches the quality that de Jong would bring to our team.
That being said, the board must not accept that asking price which seems to be the case as they are adamant that the club would not be held ransom in their pursuit. After all, Xavi Hernandez’s side are the ones who are desperate for money right now, which gives us some control in this transfer race.
De Jong’s stance is our biggest problem at this moment, considering how he wants to remain with the Spanish heavyweights. Fortunately, the Mancunians would be delighted to hear that the midfielder is gradually accepting the fact that he would have to leave Xavi’s team moving forward.

If that is true, the Manchester club must plan an offensive at once and use ten Hag to change de Jong’s decision for the better. Perhaps, the prospect of being played in his suited position could be enough to sway his mind in our favour. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.
