Juventus hope to finalise transfer move for Manchester United star Paul Pogba this week

According to the Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Sun), Juventus are hoping to finalise a transfer move for the signature of Manchester United star Paul Pogba this week. They want to officially announce him as their player in this period and are looking to ramp up the efforts for that reason.

Pogba is set to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer ahead of the next season. His contract will expire at the end of this month, and Juve appear to be closing in on facilitating a move shortly. It is expected that an announcement will be made in the next few days as they look to bolster their squad and become title challengers once again.

The Bianconeri have proposed a three-year deal to the Frenchman, which will see him earn around £200,000-per-week in salaries. It seems that Pogba is getting close to returning to Allianz Stadium after leaving to join Man United for £89million back in 2016. He would also be joined by former player Angel di Maria who will leave Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer this summer.

End of the road?

Pogba’s time with the Red Devils has been spiralling towards a bitter end for quite some time after failing to reach the expectations. What makes matters worse is how they have not been provided with enough returns to justify the expense they incurred for his services.

It is quite unfortunate how things have turned out as the 29-year-old never seemed to click regularly at Manchester. In fact, his performances with us have always been overshadowed by his excellence for the national team, even if he had spent more time at the club level.

Losing the Premier League ace for nothing is a difficult pill to swallow as we could have used some monetary boost to help with our rebuild. At least, our wage bill would see a massive reduction as Pogba has been earning around £290,000-a-week in salary which is quite massive for someone who has not always been dependable for a long time.

We are also bound to lose Nemanja Matic for free this summer, alongside attacking midfielders like Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata as well. This massive exodus in the centre of the pitch leaves us with few options ahead of the next campaign.

As such, it is imperative that the board support Erik ten Hag by identifying suitable targets to replace these outgoings this summer itself. Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong and James Ward-Prowse of Southampton have been linked with a move, but whether they would join us or not remains to be seen.

It is important that the void left behind by Pogba is filled immediately. A global superstar, he looked untouchable at his best and albeit for a brief period of time, became the face of this team- especially under Jose Mourinho.

Since Man United themselves have confirmed Pogba’s departure, they must give absolute importance to replacing him in the coming weeks. Let’s hope that the hierarchy can find a suitable alternative at the earliest so that the potential new arrival can be integrated into the team as soon as possible.
