According to Football Insider (h/t Burnley Express), Brighton are planning to target Manchester United star Axel Tuanzebe for a potential move in the summer transfer window. His playing career has been in an alarming downward spiral following disastrous spells at Aston Villa and Napoli so far.
Tuanzebe moved to Villa at the start of this season, and he was expected to enjoy a great time under Dean Smith. After all, he has been on loan with them in the previous campaigns, so it was thought that the defender could find his feet with them. Smith was sacked in a surprising move, and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was brought in, which started the plight of the centre-back.
Gerrard did not count on Tuanzebe, which meant that Man United had to find a quick solution in January. The loan was prematurely cut short, and Napoli became a destination for the central defender. Unfortunately, things have not turned well for him in Italy either, having featured in just two games, adding to his woes.
Tuanzebe will leave Stadio Diego Armando Maradona and return to Old Trafford from his loan spell after the current term. Fortunately, it appears that Brighton and Hove Albion are willing to give the Englishman a chance, having offered a move to Amex Stadium as an escape route.
It seems that a move elsewhere would be best for the 24-year-old even though we have run into troubles in the centre-half position. After all, our defensive solidity has often been questioned this campaign due to the inability to defend as a cohesive unit.
Furthermore, even
individuals like Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane have underperformed during this period. Other options like Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are well past their best days, so it would be best if the Red Devils decide to part ways with them soon enough.Erik ten Hag is in line to manage us from the next season onwards with a plan to facilitate a rebuild in mind. Despite these issues, Tuanzebe may not receive a chance to make a case at Old Trafford. That is because The Athletic claim that he will be put on the market at the end of this term.
The board cannot be blamed for that decision, as it is high time that we get rid
of players who are simply not good enough to make it at Carrington. That being said, it would be best if we could raise a decent sum for the Man United defender by selling him to Graham Potter’s side.We can use that raised amount to back ten Hag in the upcoming transfer window and find quality defensive options who would greatly boost our quality moving forward.
