Transfer News: Manchester United show interest in Middlesbrough star Djed Spence
According to The Sun, Manchester United have expressed their interest in signing Middlesbrough star Djed Spence in the summer transfer window. He has enjoyed a fantastic season with Nottingham Forest, where he was out on loan for the entirety of the 2021-22 campaign.
Spence has earned quite a name for himself this term, having been one of the top performers for Forest throughout this season. That has seen him attract interest from some of the top Premier League sides for a potential transfer at the end of the current campaign.
Man United are one of them, but they are joined by Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur as well in this pursuit. However, the former have been dealt a transfer blow considering how the two North London clubs are currently leading the race to sign the English prospect as of now.
Can Man Utd get ahead in this race?
The 21-year-old has earned rave reviews for his displays this season and is widely regarded as one of the best young talents in the Championship right now. The right-back has certainly warranted those praises, and he seems ready to take the next step in his career with a jump up to the Premier League.
That claim is backed by the Championship starlet’s performances in the FA Cup this term, especially against top-class opposition. He had impressed with flying colours against the likes of Liverpool, Leicester City and the Gunners themselves during Steve Cooper’s side’s impressive run in the cup competition.
We could use someone like Spence in our ranks as the Mancunians are planning to rebuild their ranks to get them back to their old glory. Erik ten Hag would need to be backed with quality signings, and the Boro ace could be one of those this summer.
The Manchester side is willing to cut their losses with Aaron Wan-Bissaka following his disappointing time at Old Trafford since the £50million move from Crystal Palace back in 2019. Wan-Bissaka’s potential sale would open up a spot in the right-back slot that must be filled.
Diogo Dalot has proven himself under Ralf Rangnick, and he deserves to remain at Carrington under ten Hag as well. Spence can play as an understudy under Dalot and could even play a more prominent role, considering how we would have to deal with congested fixtures due to our presence in several different competitions.
