Transfer News: Manchester United keen to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen
According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have made an approach to swoop for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen for £93million.
The Nigerian international has made 31 appearances for the club and scored 18 goals and provided six assists this season. His impressive goal-scoring record has grabbed the attention of Premier League clubs such as Man United and Arsenal.
The Gunners too have shown their interest in the striker after keeping tabs on the player. With his attacking prowess, manager Mikel Arteta could use him upfront to help his team score more goals, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang now at Barcelona.
The 23-year-old striker has a contract running till 2025 and Napoli want to make full use of the demand the player has created. The club is willing to secure a whopping £93m in the striker’s sale to the Red Devils.
A Good Fit?
The Red Devils will undergo a transition phase this summer with incoming United manager Erik ten Hag set to take over the new project. Edinson Cavani is expected to depart the club this summer and Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t getting any younger himself. The duo was, at their age, always going to be a short-term solution for us.
With the uncertainty that lies over Marcus Rashford’s future in our starting XI and with Jesse Lingard also expected to leave this summer, the inclusion of Osimhen could seem to be a fit at the Theatre of Dreams. Fans would certainly like to see a young, confident striker lead the line for years to come- rather than the manager switching around attacking players in makeshift positions.
The club would certainly not want to overspend this summer, not to forget their interest in Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong which could cost them £65million. The manager is set to make changes in order to compete and win titles keeping in mind not to go overboard with the transfer spending.

But the club’s interest in Osimhen doesn’t seem too out of place considering the profile the youngster has maintained. A strong striker, the Nigerian international isn’t shabby when in possession as well.
Given his age and experience, it bodes well for any of his potential suitors that he can still get better in the coming years. Hopefully, we see him play at his peak in a Man United shirt, but that is something only time will tell.
