Manchester United chiefs are in Barcelona as club continues to monitor Frenkie De Jong.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong move to Manchester United 95 percent done claims Spanish transfer expert

According to transfer expert Gerard Romero on Twitter (h/t Express), Manchester United are on the verge of completing a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong in the upcoming summer transfer window.

de Jong has been a regular for the Catalan side ever since his move from Ajax Amsterdam, slotting in alongside Sergio Busquets in the middle of the pitch. He joined Barca in 2019 after playing a crucial role in Ajax’s run to the semi-finals of the Champions League the previous campaign.

The Dutchman was part of a young team put together by Erik ten Hag, boasting future superstars like Hakim Ziyech, Donny van de Beek, and Matthijs de Ligt. Although they could not progress further than the semi-finals in the UCL, they managed to complete a domestic double in Holland.

ten Hag and van de Beek would later move to United, with the former being appointed as the English side’s permanent manager last month while the latter was signed in 2020. Now, it looks like they could be reunited with de Jong in the summer.

95% probability of move

Romero has revealed that the 25-year-old is not part of Xavi Hernandez’s future plans at Barcelona, and could be sold at the end of the season in order to balance their books. The transfer expert claims that a move to Old Trafford is imminent, saying there is a 95% probability of it happening.

That said, there is still a small chance that the midfielder wants to stay with the La Liga giants and continue to fight for his place. However, the player looks close to swapping Barcelona for Manchester, with a deal worth £69m likely to convince the Catalans to part with him.

This is great news for United fans, who have been desperate for a talented midfielder to join the team. The midfield’s quality and depth has long been a weak link in the side, and it now looks like they are on the verge of snapping up a player who could reinforce the area. This comes as the club is set to lose Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic this summer.

van de Beek’s arrival was expected to solve this issue, but the ex-Ajax man did not have the desired impact at the Theatre of Dreams. He was barely afforded any chances to impress and is currently on loan at Everton until the summer to gain more minutes in the Premier League under his belt.

ten Hag’s imminent arrival at the end of the season has also made supporters optimistic, with the Dutchman boasting an impressive record in Holland while in charge of Ajax. He is expected to come in and produce the same kind of results as he did in his native country, and that could soon be boosted by de Jong’s transfer.

The new permanent manager enjoyed a successful period in Amsterdam with players such as de Jong and van de Beek playing in midfield, and that could once again be the situation in Manchester ahead of the new season. After a disappointing campaign this time around, perhaps the next term looks brighter already.
