Manchester United target Ruben Neves prefers Premier League stay amidst Barcelona interest

According to Daily Mail Online, Manchester United target Ruben Neves prefers to stay in the Premier League amidst interest from Barcelona for a potential move. The midfielder has been linked with an exit from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and it seems that he wants to remain in the English top-flight in case of a departure.

Neves has a contract with Wolves until 2024, but he could leave them at the end of this season. That is if they decide to part ways with him, which is a possibility, with the holding midfielder being valued at around £70million in transfer fees. Man United would receive a boost in their pursuit following this latest revelation.

After all, the Portuguese international’s current stance would see Barca and Juventus fall short in the transfer race. That being said, the Red Devils would still need to keep an eye out for Arsenal, who have shown an interest in signing him. That is especially the case with Neves being eager to play European football, especially the Champions League.

Can Man Utd sign Neves?

It is pretty clear at this point how we are desperate for additions in the defensive midfield this summer. After all, Nemanja Matic has already confirmed that he will leave us at the end of this term. That leaves us with no natural options in the holding role, which is very concerning, to say the least.

While Fred and Scott McTominay can deputise in that position, they are box to box midfielders in nature and are naturally limited in certain aspects. The Manchester club should have brought in addition last summer as the failure to do so has adversely affected us throughout this campaign.

Neves is a great shout indeed, considering how he has garnered valuable PL experience since achieving promotion with the Wanderers back in 2018. However, his current valuation is far fetched even for a highly rated midfielder, as we must simply not pay that amount to his current club

Ruben Neves also has interest from Arsenal, Barcelona and Juventus.

That is the case even with these interests, as those price ranges are usually reserved for the forward players. The Blaugrana side and Juve would have posed serious issues for us, but fortunately, the 25-year-old’s intentions have shifted the tide in our favour.

That being said, the Gunners must be taken as a serious obstacle since they are currently the favourites to qualify for the next term’s CL. However, that factor is likely to elude us, so it remains to be seen if that would play a major role in this transfer race or not this summer.

Then again, it is up to Bruno Lage’s side whether they will want Neves to leave them after this season. So let’s wait and see how this situation will pan out in the next few months.
