Manchester United dealt transfer blow as Feyenoord star Tyrell Malacia in talks with Olympic Lyon

According to journalist Jonathan Shrager on Twitter (h/t The Express), Manchester United have been dealt a blow as Feyenoord star Tyrell Malacia is currently engaged in talks with Olympic Lyon over a potential transfer. The defender is one of the highly-rated prospects in the Netherlands right now and has even made a mark with the national team.

Incoming manager Erik ten Hag is a keen admirer of Malacia’s skills. Man United for their part are looking to sign the full-back to back their new man in charge this summer. They have scouted him recently as a result and have been left impressed by his displays, particularly in the 3-2 win against Marseille in the UEFA Europa Conference League semi-finals.

Even though the Red Devils are not currently in the market for a left-back, that could change following Ten Hag’s arrival. However, if there are plans to bring in Malacia in such a situation, they would need to make a move sooner with Olympique Lyonnais currently “advancing” in their discussions with the defender.

Can Man Utd beat Lyon?

Alex Telles has largely disappointed with his performances as many fans thought that there would be a turnaround following Ralf Rangnick’s arrival. After all, Rangnick employs a much more attacking style of football compared to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, where fullbacks are much more involved in the attack.

Despite the change, Telles has failed to perform consistently at the same level that he had shown during his time with Porto. Luke Shaw, meanwhile, has done quite well when available, even though his displays have dwindled this season.

Then again, that could simply be down to how the entire Manchester side have struggled throughout the current campaign. With the Ajax manager set to take over the reins this summer, there is a chance that he could demand a signing in the left-back position.

Malacia would be a great shout in such a case since the Dutch international seems to be one of the future superstars in the making. Prising him away before he attracts more interest would be wise on our part as he could play as an understudy in the early days.

Moreover, Telles himself could decide to move elsewhere for a fresh challenge giving more reasons for us to target Malacia. The latter is currently valued at £16million, but the Eredivisie side could ask for a higher price if the demand increases.

With Lyon now causing issues for us, it would be best if we respond at the earliest to not lose out on Malacia. Only time will tell where the 22-year-old would end up at Old Trafford come the summer transfer window.
