Di Marzio: Manchester United target and AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni prefers Premier League move this summer
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni would like to move to the Premier League in the near future, with Manchester United following him ahead of the summer transfer window.
Tchouameni has been a revelation for the French side, pulling the strings for the team from the middle of the pitch and turning into a lynchpin for the Ligue 1 club. He only moved to Monaco from Bordeaux in 2020 but has made a big name for himself in the space of just a couple of years.
Speaking to wettfreunde (h/t The Sun), Di Marzio claimed that a lot of Premier League clubs were following Tchouameni and that the player prefers to play in England. The journalist also named Arsenal and United as sides who were interested in the midfielder.
“A lot of clubs in the Premier League are following him. Arsenal, Manchester United to name a few. He prefers to play in the Premier League.”
Moving to his current club as a talented teenager, he has grown leaps and bounds in recent years. His rise to stardom has seen him become a full France international, even netting for his country in their previous outings.
“He’s perfect for Man United and the new midfield there”
His performances for Monaco and Les Bleus in the past two years have seen be linked to United, who are in need of midfield reinforcements in the summer. Senior stars such as Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic are set to leave at the end of the season for free, with the latter even announcing his departure.
Di Marzio claimed that Tchouameni would be perfect for the Red Devils and their new midfield, comparing the player to Pogba. The reporter also said that the 22-year-old stayed for another year in Monaco as he was waiting for an opportunity to move to England.
“Nowadays the players want to play in the Premier League. He stayed another year in Monaco because he was waiting for the possibility of going to the Premier League. I think this could be the summer for him to go. He is a player like Paul Pogba. He’s perfect for Man United and the new midfield there.”
Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Pogba and Matic’s imminent departures would leave the Manchester side stretched thin in the middle of the park, leaving only Fred and Scott McTominay as the club’s remaining central midfielders. Donny van de Beek is expected back in the summer after his loan spell at Everton, but his future in our starting IX looks uncertain.
van de Beek has barely been afforded any opportunities to make his mark in the team, and it is not known if he will be in Erik ten Hag’s plans this summer. Furthermore, Fred and McTominay have not shown they are reliable enough to perform against stronger opposition, which is a worry.

Tchouameni’s acquisition at the end of the season could change the bleak situation at the Theatre of Dreams, with the arrival of a talented midfielder sure to lift the mood at the club. If, as Di Marzio claims, he is anything like Pogba on the pitch, then we could have a top player in our midst.
With Erik ten Hag also expected to arrive ahead of the new campaign to take over as the club’s new permanent manager, the final decision to land the Monaco man may rest with the head coach. Only time will tell if Tchouameni’s desire to play in the Premier League can be satisfied by ten Hag.
