Agent of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic reveals his client’s Manchester United preference in the summer
Speaking to Foot01 (h/t The Sun), the agent of Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Mateja Kezman has revealed that although his client has a lot of offers on the table from other clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, he would prefer a move to Manchester United.
The 27-year-old has been hugely impressive for Lazio over the past few years, churning out consistent performances in midfield. His form has seen him attract interest from a lot of sides in the past, and he could now finally be set for a move away from Italy.
Kezman said that his client had no shortage of offers in the summer, but confirmed that United and Paris Saint-Germain were leading the race to sign him. This is sure to come as a big boost for the Red Devils, who are looking for midfield reinforcements at the end of the season.
“Sergej has no shortage of offers for the summer transfer window. At the moment we are dealing with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.”
The Manchester side has struggled to perform this campaign, with their weak midfield being a big reason for their bad run of form. The options that the club have in the middle of the park have been disappointing, and have not been able to step up and take control of games.
“Sergej wants to go to Manchester”
With Paul Pogba looking like he is going to run down his contract at United and leave for free in the summer, the English club are looking for replacements. Nemanja Matic has also announced his departure from the team at the end of the season, so the squad is short on midfield options.
Kezman provided a huge boost to the Red Devils in this respect, saying that although his client is focused on playing well for Lazio until the end of the season, the player wants to go to Manchester and start a fresh chapter in his career.
“He is focused on the end of the season with Lazio, but Sergej wants to go to Manchester.”
This is massive news for United, who will be desperate for midfield reinforcements in the summer to bolster their squad and make up for the outgoing transfers. Ahead of the new season, the club only have Fred and Scott McTominay who can take up the midfield role.
Donny van de Beek is expected back at Old Trafford when his loan spell at Everton expires at the end of the campaign, but his future at Old Trafford is uncertain given the lack of minutes he has been facing since his move to the club in 2020. That could change when new manager Erik ten Hag comes in, but it remains to be seen.
