Twitter Reaction: Manchester United fans react to interim boss Ralf Rangnick being appointed the new Austria manager
Posting via their official Twitter handle, Manchester United confirmed the appointment of interim manager Ralf Rangnick as the new manager of the Austrian men’s national football team from the end of the season.
The German is set to take on a new responsibility at the international level once his tenure as interim boss expires in the summer, accepting the offer from the Austrian FA to take over the national side. He will replace Franco Foda as the new head coach.
Despite his new role with Austria, Rangnick will also continue with United in a consultancy role at the end of the 2021/22 campaign. This would involve the 63-year-old taking on a dual responsibility, which he seems to be happy handling.
The summer is expected to bring in changes not just for Rangnick but also for the Red Devils, as they look set to welcome Erik ten Hag as their new permanent manager. He will take over the reins from Rangnick once he finishes his duties at Ajax Amsterdam this term.
“Continue my consultancy with Manchester United”
The club’s official website announced that their German head coach signed a two-year contract with Austria, with Rangnick joining up with the national team at the end of May. This would mean that he will immediately get to work with his new side after the end of the current Premier League season.
The German said that despite his new role at the end of the season, he would continue his consultancy with United and that he was really looking forward to helping the English club become a real force again in the near future.
“I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United. I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping United become a real force again.”

It will be curious to see how Rangnick is able to handle both his responsibilities beyond the summer. He has an obligation to keep up at Old Trafford, possibly working in an advisory role to help ten Hag build his side and get the squad hungry for trophies once again.
Hopefully, he is able to do justice to both his roles and not neglect United. Although ten Hag will be the main man in Manchester next season, Rangnick’s input will prove to be invaluable after his stint with the current players at the club.
