Manchester United dressing room impressed with coaching credentials of new manager Erik ten Hag
According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United players are impressed with the coaching credentials of their incoming new permanent manager Erik ten Hag, although some have concerns about him having the right personality.
ten Hag will be taking over the club from the summer, succeeding Ralf Rangnick as the side’s manager. The German will see his tenure as interim boss expire at the end of the season after he was appointed late last year.
Under Rangnick, United have had a terrible time of late, losing 4-0 to Liverpool at Anfield and then following it up with a 3-1 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Team morale and confidence seem to be at an all-time low.
These losses see the Manchester side sit in the sixth position in the Premier League table, six points away from fourth-placed Arsenal, who stand to qualify for the Champions League next season if they are able to secure that spot by the summer.
Mixed bag in the dressing room
The news about ten Hag’s appointment has received a mixed opinion in the Manchester United dressing room. While some stars have been impressed by his coaching credentials, others are left wondering whether he has the right kind of personality to unite the squad and get the side winning again.
Morale and self-confidence are said to be at an all-time low after a disastrous season, and the feeling is that a strong manager is needed to rebuild the squad, rather than an outstanding coach. After all, the incoming manager’s amazing work at Ajax has made an impression on the first-team squad.
Ajax has benefitted under the tutelage of ten Hag, with the Eredivisie side winning back-to-back league titles and multiple cup competitions under the Dutchman. This season as well, they are on course to win a hat-trick of league titles as they sit on top of the points table at the business end of the campaign.
In Europe as well, the 52-year-old has proven that he has the ability to impress after his young Ajax team made it all the way to the semi-finals of the Champions League, only to be knocked out by Tottenham Hotspur.

Clearly, his trophy record speaks for itself. Given that United are currently enduring a five-year trophy drought, he seems to be the perfect person for the manager’s job at Old Trafford, and fans will expect him to break this damning stat about their club.
Only time will tell whether he has the right kind of resolve and mentality to improve the side’s morale after it looks shattered this season. However, it takes a strong personality to build a successful team like Ajax in Holland, so the signs look good regarding his attitude being the right one we need at the moment to resolve our problems.
