Family members of Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo thank Liverpool fans for their support
According to Manchester Evening News, family members of Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo thanked Liverpool fans for their amazing gesture of support last night during the Premier League clash at Anfield.
Fans of both clubs showed their respect for Ronaldo in the seventh minute of the game, joining together in applause as a gesture of support, love, and togetherness after the Portugal captain announced the tragic news of the death of his newborn baby boy.
The player’s sister Elma posted footage of the show of unity on social media after the match, thanking Liverpool for their display. She also said that they would never forget what the rival fans and club did on the day.
“Thank you for this Liverpool. We will never forget what you did today.”
The United No. 7 missed the game altogether, with the player allowed to take time off on compassionate grounds to spend time with his loved ones and recover after such a heart-breaking loss. He was pictured in training earlier today and it remains to be seen if Ronaldo will take to the field against Arsenal.
“Way beyond football”
Aside from displaying unity with Red Devils fans in the seventh minute, Liverpool supporters also belted out a rendition of their club anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ in the stadium, adding a different emotion and feel to the venue during the game in a gesture of goodwill.
Ronaldo’s sibling Katia posted her own video on social media along with the caption “Way beyond football”. Their mother Dolores Aveiro also posted her own message on Instagram in Portuguese, quoting a well-known verse from the Bible and asking God for help at such a difficult time.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your way acknowledge Him And he shall direct your Paths.”
Despite the historic rivalry between the two clubs, it was heartwarming to see both sets of fans putting aside their disdain for each other and uniting for a good cause. Credit needs to be given to Liverpool fans and the club for their incredible gesture towards Ronaldo and his family as they try to move past a difficult time in their personal lives.
