Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes apologises to fans after their 4-0 defeat to Liverpool
Speaking to Sky Sports, as quoted by the club’s official website, Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has apologised to the fans after the team lost 4-0 to Liverpool last night at Anfield, denting their top-four hopes for the season.
Fernandes was one of many disappointing players for United in the game, unable to make a meaningful impact as Liverpool stormed into an early lead within five minutes of the game and established their dominance.
The 27-year-old apologised to the fans after the match, saying that there was not much he can say after a bad result and that although an apology will never be enough, it is what they can do at the moment.
“It’s a bad result once again. Not much that I can say. Obviously, [we] apologise to the fans. It will never be enough but obviously it is what we can do now.”
The Portugal international played all ninety minutes of the fixture, but was unable to string together any attacks or passes that we have all come to expect from him. He remained largely invisible in the match as Liverpool dominated the midfield, controlling the possession and tempo of the game.
“They deserve much more from us”
Fernandes spent most of his time on the pitch chasing after players from the opposition, as the Red Devils ended the game with only one shot on target. The team usually relies on the ex-Sporting CP man to provide the final pass for scoring, but he was unable to perform last night.
The midfielder said that the fans deserve much more from the players, given that the supporters are behind them until the end and even stay after the final whistle to applaud the team despite a terrible result against our arch-rivals.
“They [the fans] don’t deserve that we play in this way, they deserve much more from us. The way they support us until the end, the way they stay even after the whistle to applaud us, they deserve much more from us.”
In a game that did not feature Cristiano Ronaldo, Fred, and Scott McTominay, much of the responsibility was left on Fernandes’ shoulders. He had to make sure that he was offering an attacking threat up front, while also running the midfield effectively.
However, he failed at both tasks and was a backseat passenger to the Liverpool midfielders, who ran the show without breaking much of a sweat. For a player for his quality, it hurt to watch the United star be second-best to the opposition. A lofted pass that found Jadon Sancho out on the left flank in the second half was perhaps the highlight of his game- but the Englishman fluffed his trivela pass and hit it straight into the arms of Alisson Becker.

He was frustrated towards the end, picking up a yellow card for a rash challenge as he let his emotions get the better of him. Hopefully, he puts this behind him and can bounce back against Arsenal on the weekend, as we battle the Gunners in the race for fourth place in the Premier League table.
The supporters have had to endure a topsy-turvy season that has shown no consistency from the side, and yet, they act as the 12th man in the stadium for the players. They need to be compensated for their undying support, and victory in the Arsenal match is the perfect way to make up for last night’s result.
