Nemanja Matic reveals that he will leave Manchester United this summer

According to The SunNemanja Matic has revealed on his social media handle that he will leave Manchester United in this summer transfer window. His revelation would mean that the midfielder would now be their first departure at the end of this season.

Matic will see his current contract with Man United expires at the end of this season, meaning that he will leave the club on a free transfer in the summer. There is an option to extend it by one more year, but he will not trigger that clause following this update. Matic’s imminent exit will mean that Man United must prioritise bolstering their midfield this summer.

The Serb has confirmed the news on his official Instagram handle. The holding midfielder mentioned that he informed his teammates, Ralf Rangnick and the Red Devils board about his decision. Finally, he added that despite this stance, he would continue to give his best until the end of this campaign.

“After a great deal of thought, I have decided that this season will be my last with Manchester United. I have informed the board, the manager and the players of my decision. It has been a huge honour and a privilege to play for this great club. A big thank you to the fans for their unwavering support. I will now give everything until the end of the season to help my teammates finish as strongly as possible.”

Man Utd must address the midfield issue!

It was clear at the start of this campaign that we needed to strengthen our midfield, which the board had failed to address. That was a baffling decision from the management as we often were dominated in the centre of the pitch by the opposition.

Now with the 33-year-old expressing that he is set to depart this summer, we cannot sit idly by moving forward. He is our only natural holding midfielder in our ranks, and losing him would be detrimental despite his reduced prominence this season.

Nemanja Matic opted against activating a one-year contract extension.

After all, our squad composition would be ruined, considering we would not have any defensive midfield options in our ranks. Fred and Scott McTominay are more like box-to-box midfielders rather than pivot choices which shows our desperate need to bring in an adequate replacement for Matic.

More Manchester United News

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag looks set to take over the reins from Rangnick at the end of the season, and we must back him by giving him the tools needed to succeed. This news would add to the list of issues that Ten Hag would need to solve at Old Trafford. Let’s hope that the hierarchy will finally realise the problems and address them, unlike what happened last summer.

As for Matic, he has always given his all for us since leaving Chelsea for £40million back in 2017. We wish him all the best for his future prospects while hoping that he can deliver in the remainder of this campaign.
