Fabrizio Romano quotes Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick on Erik ten Hag’s rumoured move to the club
According to @utdreport on Twitter as relayed by reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has spoken out about Erik ten Hag, who is expected to become the next permanent boss of the club.
Rangnick was appointed as the team’s boss late last year, appointed until the end of the season to steady the ship after the club had sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a string of disappointing results in the Premier League.
The German is expected to give up his seat in the dugout at Old Trafford in the summer to make way for a new head coach, and ten Hag is widely expected to take over from him and usher the team into a new era of success and trophies. And that is exactly why many would be waiting for Rangnick to break his silence on ten Hag’s potential appointment.
The Theatre of Dreams has not seen any silverware be lifted for the past five years, with our last triumph coming in 2017 when we won the UEFA Europa League under Jose Mourinho’s reign. We came close to winning it again last season, but Solskjaer saw his side lose on penalties to Villarreal in the final.
“We all know ten Hag is a good manager”
Romano quoted the United head coach, who said that he had the same response as ten Hag did when asked about his links to the Red Devils. In a separate interview, when quizzed about the Manchester side, the Dutchman said that he served Ajax and had two more remaining trophies to win.
Rangnick said that everyone was aware of how good a manager ten Hag was and that he has done a good job at Ajax, but it was the wrong time to speak about the subject as it does not make sense. ten Hag is currently busy with the Amsterdam side, preparing for the KNVB Cup final.
“We all know ten Hag is a good manager, that he has done a good job at Ajax, but right now it doesn’t make sense to speak about it”.
There can be no surprise as to why the Ajax boss is being considered for the permanent manager role from the summer, given his achievements in Holland. He has won back-to-back Eredivisie titles and added a few domestic cups to his trophy cabinet over the past couple of seasons.
This year, he is on course to lead them to a hat-trick of league titles, with the Dutch giants sitting on top of the league table. Further, if he wins the KNVB Cup against PSV Eindhoven in the final in the coming days, he could complete a domestic double in potentially his last season with the Amsterdam side.

In contrast, United are sitting seventh in the Premier League and are in danger of missing out on qualifying for the Champions League next term, with fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur currently six points ahead of them, with seven games left to play.
ten Hag’s reputation in the Netherlands precedes him, but it will be interesting to see how he adapts to the English top-flight, and whether he will be able to implement his methods on a team that look low on confidence and are unable to break down stubborn opposition sides.
