Transfer News: Manchester United target Victor Osimhen unlikely to leave Napoli this summer

According to TEAMtalk (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United target Victor Osimhen is seemingly unlikely to leave Napoli in the summer transfer window. He has developed to become one of the best strikers in world football at the moment since joining them back in 2020.

Osimhen’s impressive displays have attracted a lot of attention to him from some of the major clubs in England. Manchester United are one of them, but they are also joined by Arsenal in this transfer race. Newcastle United are in the fray as well, but all of them would have been dealt a blow by this latest news.

The Nigerian is claimed to be unlikely to depart Stadio Diego Armando Maradona after this season. The Serie A side has no desire to part ways with him as they look to ward off interest from other clubs. He is contracted with them until 2025, which has given them control over his future.

Damning blow!

This summer would have been a perfect time for us to bring in the 23-year-old, considering how beneficial it would be for us to sign a quality centre-forward. Osimhen has developed to become an imposing presence in the attack- one that can lead the line for a top team such as Man Utd.

However, that seems not to be on the cards with Luciano Spalletti’s side slapping an outrageous £100million asking price for the Serie A ace’s signature. They are looking to dishearten the interested parties using that valuation and his long contract.

Even his agent had shut down talks of a move elsewhere which means that we would be wise to turn our attention elsewhere. The African attacker would have certainly helped us, but we cannot dwell on this apparent setback for too long with the summer transfer window nearing close.

Edinson Cavani will become a free agent after this campaign, and it would not make sense to keep hold of him any longer. Cavani’s second season at Old Trafford has been ridden with injuries, which has left a sour taste with the fans following his excellent first term.

We also do not know what the future lies in store for Cristiano Ronaldo with Champions League football moving away from us with each matchday. We cannot depend upon Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to take over the reins either, as they have had a poor season so far. Depending on them to lead our line from next season may not be the wisest option right now, given their form.

Mason Greenwood has been suspended indefinitely, and his future is uncertain as well. In light of this, it makes sense why the club would perhaps be interested in someone like Osimhen- given how well he is doing in Italy.

But then again, the club needs to understand the monetary aspects of such a deal and if it doesn’t make sense for Man United’s financial health, then it is better to turn our attention elsewhere.
