Manchester United fans put up brutal sign for players at Carrington after Everton defeat

According to the Express, Manchester United fans have slammed the club for their performance against Everton over the weekend, putting up a brutal sign as a message to the players at their training ground in Carrington.

United have had a terrible season thus far, losing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer late last year after the Norwegian led the team to a poor string of results that saw them slip down the Premier League table.

He was succeeded by Ralf Rangnick, who was brought in on an interim basis to guide the club back up the league table and finish the campaign strongly, qualifying for the Champions League next term.

However, Rangnick oversaw a disappointing 1-0 defeat to an Everton side that was trying to escape the threat of relegation, which saw his own team remain in seventh position in the league table and in danger of missing out on UCL football next season.

The defeat to the Toffees was another blow for the Red Devils, and fans made their anger known by putting up a sign on the way to their Carrington training complex. The sign branded the players as ’embarrassing’.

It also contained an expletive and said they were not fit to wear the shirt. Not just this, it also said ‘get out of our club’, sending a message directly to the underperforming stars in the team. Evidently, fan happiness in Manchester is at an all-time low this season.

“Get out of our club”

Having exited the FA Cup and Champions League since Rangnick took over, the prospect of winning any silverware this season has also gone up in smoke. This means that the club has now gone five years without winning a trophy.

The fans’ anger is expected. They have seen fall from the top and mid-table obscurity is something we never thought of associating with Man United- not for a long time. Of course, the signs are ruthless and perhaps not one you would expect from fans, who are supposed to back you through the tough times.

Our last piece of silverware was the UEFA Europa League won in 2017 under Jose Mourinho’s reign, while our last league title came in 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge. Clearly, the club’s progress has worsened over the years.

Solskjaer was able to lead us to a runner-up spot in the PL last season, but we were still nowhere close to catching City. There was more heartbreak towards the end of the previous campaign, with a UEFA Europa League final loss to Villarreal on penalties.

And perhaps this sign- however ruthless and perhaps a bit harsh- can serve as a reminder to some of the players that there are big things expected of them. Fans reacting harshly to a poor run of results is something that may never leave this sport but they must realize that there is a better way of communicating their feelings- keeping in mind that players are also human beings, just like us- with their own insecurities, feelings, and sentiments.

Next season promises a new start for the side, potentially bringing in a new manager to succeed Rangnick and usher in a new era for the club. That should give the disgruntled fans reason to be optimistic, but at the moment, the team will need to dig deep to produce results as we are winless thus far in April.
