Man City and Liverpool ‘step up’ interest in Manchester United transfer target star Jude Bellingham

According to TeamTalk (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester City and Liverpool are stepping up the chase to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, which will come as a transfer blow to Manchester United who are also interested in snapping up the player.

Bellingham has been a revelation for Dortmund, ever since moving from Birmingham City in 2020. The teenager is first-choice in midfield for the German club, despite never playing in any country’s top-flight before.

He has gone from strength to strength in his career since making the move to the Bundesliga, playing in the Champions League at club level while also earning several caps for the England national team, despite only being 18 years old.

Such maturity for his age is hard to come across and replicate, with very few players capable of boasting of his achievements in the early years of their playing careers. It is plain to see why Premier League giants are vying for his signature, looking to bolster their own midfielders with his addition.

United to battle City and Liverpool

Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are both huge admirers of the English midfielder, who has been involved in 27 goals in 85 appearances during his Dortmund career. The current top two sides of the English top-flight will be United’s main competitors in the transfer race to sign Bellingham.

City are said to be keen on bringing the England international to the blue half of Manchester, with Guardiola looking to play him alongside Phil Foden and Jack Grealish to complement the midfield and attack. This interest from the Cityzens seemingly saw a reaction from Liverpool, as the Reds step up their efforts to steal him away to Merseyside.

Despite both City and Liverpool boasting a strong midfield, their interest in a talent like Bellingham shows just how far ahead of the other teams they are in the Premier League. They are always looking to build on their success and progress further, which showcases an elite mentality from their managers and the recruitment department.

Meanwhile, a club like United, who are also linked to the player, are desperate to have a star like him in their squad. Amongst the midfield ranks at Old Trafford, perhaps Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes are the only stars that stand out on paper. A lack of quality hampers us from taking control in the middle of the pitch, which has been evident from our performances of late.

We have been winless in April, with the midfield unable to create chances for our forwards to finish. Our midfielders are not completely at fault, of course, with the attack failing to put away these opportunities, but more chances are expected from the current midfield options at the club.

At the moment, Fred, Scott McTominay, or Nemanja Matic are unable to meet this requirement week in, week out. With City and Liverpool also sniffing around for the player, we need to up our game in order to prevent him from going to a rival and further losing ground on these two clubs.

Despite being a teenager, Bellingham’s playing style and confidence on the pitch come across as that of a seasoned professional. A player like him can be the long-awaited successor to Paul Scholes or Michael Carrick that we have been yearning for. But we can only know if that can be true if we can beat our two biggest rivals in England to secure his signature.
