Barcelona register interest in Wolves star Ruben Neves amid Manchester United transfer links
According to Manchester Evening News, Barcelona have registered their interest in securing the signature of Wolves star Ruben Neves amid links to Manchester United regarding a potential transfer. He has been ever-present for his side since achieving promotion to the Premier League back in 2018.
Neves has grown over the years to become one of the best holding midfielders in the league. That has resulted in him getting linked with a move to Old Trafford over the last four years or so. Talks regarding a potential transfer continued to spread consistently during this period. However, Man United have not formally declared their interest with his representatives so far.
Now, Barca have entered the race to secure the Portuguese international’s services ahead of the summer transfer window. They are also joined by Arsenal, who look to back Mikel Arteta with adequate signings to develop their current project. Wolves could decide to sell him if he does not renew his contract with them moving forward.
Man Utd need Neves?
The Manchester club have declared midfield as the priority area they will focus on bolstering after this term. That has seen them setting things up to prise Kalvin Phillips away from Leeds United this summer. However, it would be wise if we also lay down the foundations to sign other targets if we lost out on Phillips.
Neves would be a great choice in such a case which makes our current stance a bit surprising, to say the least. He is currently tied down at Molineux until 2024, which does make things difficult for us. However, we still have a shot at signing him as the Wanderers could part ways with him.
The interests of the Catalans and the Gunners would undoubtedly cause trouble if we actively pursue the 25-year-old in the future. After all, they could gain an edge over us since we are yet to mention our stance to his entourage.

We should have signed a defensive midfielder at the start of this season, as it was clearly evident how we needed to bolster the centre of the pitch. It is baffling how the board neglected the issue, which has played a part in our struggles this term.
We must reinforce the pivot position at the end of this campaign at all costs if there are plans to rebuild the team. Nemanja Matic is past his best self, and he should be moved out this summer. Fred and Scott McTominay have their limitations building from the back, which further highlights our need. Whether Neves would be the one who will join the squad or not would only be known in due time.
