Manchester United face Arsenal in straight battle for Youri Tielemans after Liverpool transfer update

According to Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports Golazo on Twitter (h/t The Sun), Manchester United will now face Arsenal in a straight battle for Youri Tielemans following the transfer update on Liverpool. He has been linked with an exit from Leicester City because of the uncertain future that lies ahead of him beyond this summer.

Tielemans is in line to enter the final year of his current contract at Leicester, which has led to this situation. He had rejected a lucrative extension, which has forced them to reduce his valuation from £60million to £25million. That has seen clubs like Man United, the Gunners, Jurgen Klopp’s side and West Ham United getting linked with a move for the midfielder.

However, the Reds’ interest has now been stated to be false, while West Ham are claimed not to be the favourites despite David Moyes being an admirer of the Belgian. That means Ralf Rangnick’s side and the North Londoners are currently in a direct battle for the central midfielder. They are also boosted by the fact that the Foxes could sell him to prevent losing him on a free transfer in the future.

Tielemans to Man Utd or Arsenal?

The Red Devils would undoubtedly be boosted by the Merseyside club getting ruled out of contention in the race to sign the 24-year-old. After all, the competition is reduced, and they would not have to deal with a heavyweight such as the 2019 UEFA Champions League winners. The latter arguably offer a more lucrative sporting project as compared to us which could have caused some trouble for the Red Devils.

That is especially the case when the Premier League ace himself has expressed his desire of playing in the Champions League moving forward. Fortunately, the remaining interested parties are outside the CL spots, even if all three of them are in contention to achieve a top-four finish in the league this season.

Even if the Hammers are not among the frontrunners right now, we must still be wary of them in case of a change in their current position. After all, they are also in contention to get into the CL places, making them a possible strong competitor in the future. Moyes could potentially demand his club to target Tielemans since he is already a keen admirer of the midfielder.

With Mikel Arteta’s side only being the major rivals at this moment, we must use this situation to take advantage and firmly cement ourselves in this race. After all, looking at both squads, it is clear that Tielemans would have more chances with us since we need an overhaul in the centre of the pitch.

The North London side has players like Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard, who would pose heavy competition to Tielemans. United, meanwhile, are desperate for midfield additions, considering how Paul Pogba is set to leave for free this summer. Nemanja Matic is past his best days and Donny van de Beek’s future remains up in the air after a mid-season loan spell was sanctioned by us this January.

Others like Fred and Scott McTominay are limited on the ball when put under pressure, which opens up the way for Tielemans. Of course, it’s not like the Belgian will have a free pass to walk into our team.

He would have to prove that he can fit into the plans of the manager at that time. But these are all scenarios we can start dreaming about if we actually do manage to win the race for the ex-Anderlecht man.
