Napoli stamp £150 million price tag on Manchester United transfer target Victor Osimhen

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (h/t United in Focus), Napoli have now attached a £150 million fee for Victor Osimhen who has been on the radar of Manchester United. The Nigerian striker has put up some impressive performances for the Italian club this season.

The 23-year-old has now bagged an impressive tally of 15 goals and four assists in 25 matches across all competitions for the Partenopei this campaign. The Nigerian professional has played a key part for Luciano Spaletti’s men this season as they currently sit second in the Serie A table at the moment.

Osimhen shows great ability in the air as well as with the ball at his feet and could thus be a great solution to our attacking woes this season. With a looming uncertainty around the future of Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo in his late 30s, the Red Devils could do well to add a young striker to their ranks.

Whilst the former LOSC Lille striker may sound like the ideal acquisition, the club should be wary of the humongous price tag that is attached to his services. The Old Trafford outfit may have to find suitable replacements at centre-back as well as midfield, keeping their recent performances in mind.

Thus blowing such a huge sum on a single player could potentially have more downsides than advantages to it. The Nigerian international has also been linked with a host of top clubs such as Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Liverpool as well as Real Madrid.

This long list of suitors could possibly give the Italian club the upper hand in any negotiation. Napoli have thus demanded a huge fee to let go of their prized jewel and this may be a grave stumbling block for the Man Utd faithful.

At 23, Osimhen still has some of his best footballing years ahead of him. He could go on to spearhead our attack for years to come if developed and nurtured in the right manner. That being said, we have spent enormous amounts of money in the past to lure some renowned players with little to no dividends.

The club should therefore take a look at a host of different criteria before making any concrete decision. The interest from other clubs coupled with the huge price-tag that is attached to the Nigerian could potentially harm our chances. Despite all of that it would be interesting to see where the 23-year-old plies his trade after the end of this campaign.
