Details of Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick’s consultancy role at the end of the season revealed
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick is expected to only work six days a month when he takes up a consultancy role with the club at the end of the season, when his tenure as a coach expires.
The German took over at Old Trafford late last year after the Manchester side sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Norwegian led the team to a poor string of results, which saw the club slip down the Premier League table.
Rangnick was roped in from Lokomotiv Moscow to guide the team back up the league table and finish the season strongly, securing a top-four place so that the club qualifies for the Champions League next season.
Once his tenure as interim manager expires in the summer, the former RB Leipzig boss has agreed a two-year stay in Manchester to act in a consultancy role for the club. Although not much information is known about what this new position entails, it is said that it would only constitute 144 days’ of work for Rangnick until 2024.
Part-time duties for Rangnick
Despite taking up a seemingly behind-the-scenes role with the Red Devils, the 63-year-old has not been consulted in the club’s hunt for a new permanent boss to succeed him beyond the summer. Thus far, the side has interviewed Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag for the job, with the pair becoming the frontrunners for the vacancy.
Rangnick’s part-time duties at United are likely to depend on which manager is appointed, but there is some mystery surrounding what will be expected of the German, with Darren Fletcher, John Murtough, and Matt Judge heading up the various aspects of the club’s football operations.
The German has come in and done a decent job with the team so far, arresting the number of losses that came under Solskjaer and maintaining a steady run in the league. However, he has overseen exits from the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League this season, ensuring that the club ends another season without any trophies.
He was in charge of the club during the January transfer window but did not make any moves for any new players despite sealing loan exits for first-team stars such as Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek, who moved to Sevilla and Everton respectively.

With United currently in seventh place in the league table and three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, the interim manager will need to dig deep and come up with successive victories in the top flight to make sure he finishes the task that was assigned to him.
He is set to still be a part of the club once his tenure as interim boss expires in the summer, although it remains to be seen what exactly his new position entails and how much influence he will have over major decisions taken by the club. Only time will tell what lies in the near future for Rangnick at Old Trafford but it is good to know that his experience and know-how would be made use of behind the scenes.
