AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham hints at Premier League transfer return amidst Manchester United interest

Speaking to talkSPORT (h/t The Sun), AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham hinted at a return to the Premier League in the future, with Manchester United keen on signing the player for themselves in the summer.

The former Chelsea star made a permanent move to Italy last year, turning out to be a brilliant signing for ex-Blues head coach Jose Mourinho in Rome as the forward has become the Portuguese manager’s go-to man for goals this season.

The Englishman said he was enjoying the attention he was getting at the moment, admitting that seeing his name linked to other clubs makes him feel that he was doing something right but insisted that he was focused on working hard with his current side.

“When I see reports linking me with other clubs it makes me feel good, it makes you feel like you’re doing something right. It’s a nice feeling seeing your name all over newspapers. But for me, it’s about focusing on doing my business here.”

His amazing form in Serie A has seen be linked with a move to United at the end of the season, with the Manchester club seemingly looking to add attacking reinforcements in the summer transfer window to make up for a disappointing campaign this time around.

“So maybe one day”

Not just the Red Devils, Abraham has also picked up interest from Arsenal, who are looking to sign more strikers after losing their main target man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in January, leaving them with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as the only striking options in the team.

The 24-year-old hinted at a return to his native country in the future, saying that he was a London boy and that he could probably make a comeback to the English top-flight to make some noise there and pick up where he left off whilst at Chelsea.

“I can keep getting linked with many clubs, but who knows what the future holds? Of course, I grew up in England, I’m a London boy. So maybe one day I’ll be back in the Premier League to make noise there.”

Having come through the ranks at Cobham’s academy, the English striker became a regular feature for the first team when Frank Lampard was in charge of the side. Lampard utilised Abraham as his number nine, with the academy product leading the line for the team during the former player’s tenure as manager.

However, once Lampard was sacked and replaced with Thomas Tuchel, the German relegated Abraham to the bench in favour of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner. Eventually, the player would be moved on to Roma, where he has proven once again that he can be the main man up front.

37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo and 35-year-old Edinson Cavani are the Red Devils’ main strikers at the moment, but given their age, it is unclear how long either of them will last at the club. A younger replacement is needed for the future, given that Marcus Rashford has also not been in top form over the past couple of seasons.

Abraham’s time in Italy has reminded everyone of how good he really is, and with prior PL experience under his belt, the England international could prove to be a very good fit at a club like United – provided they take an active interest in the Roma forward and beat out Arsenal for his signature.

The Englishman is, of course, currently managed by ex-United and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho at Roma. The Red Devils don’t have an extensive history of doing direct transfer business with Roma but were involved in a deal that saw Chris Smalling join the Italians in the recent past.
