Ajax Amsterdam boss Erik ten Hag will cost Manchester United only £1.6m in compensation if they hire him as the new manager
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United have been informed of the compensation fee they would need to pay Ajax Amsterdam to convince them to part ways with their manager Erik ten Hag at the end of the season.
It is no secret that United are hunting for a new permanent manager to take over at the club from next term to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the next head coach after the Norwegian was sacked from the side late last year.
Ralf Rangnick is currently in charge of the Red Devils but is expected to give up his seat in the manager’s dugout when his tenure as interim boss expires in the summer. At this moment, ten Hag seems to be the favourite to replace the German at the end of the season.
It is plain to see why he is touted to be the one to be offered the vacant role at Old Trafford in the summer, with the 52-year-old winning two back-to-back league titles in the Eredivisie as well as winning a couple of cup competitions during his time in Amsterdam.
Compensation fee for Ajax
It is said that United officials got in touch with Ajax representatives at the end of last week to enquire about what it would cost to prise their manager away from them, and release the Dutchman from his contract at the club. He had only recently signed a new two-year deal with the Eredivisie side last summer.
The Red Devils have been told that it would take them a compensation fee of £1.6m to sign ten Hag, and if he decides to bring any staff with him from Amsterdam, then the total package could be closer to the £2m mark.
ten Hag’s current focus would be on helping Ajax lift a hat-trick of league titles by the end of the season, all won under his tenure at the club. He has proven to be extremely successful in Holland, and perhaps it could be time to take the next big step in his managerial career and move to the Premier League.
If given the job and he accepts, then the Dutchman will have to turn a team that hasn’t won a trophy in five years into world-beaters very soon, with the expectation that he will usher in a new era in Manchester given his previous experience and success in the Eredivisie.

Although the Red Devils held formal talks with him last month, they are determined to complete a thorough recruitment process before deciding on their first-choice candidate, with other names like Mauricio Pochettino also being linked to the job in the summer.
It remains to be seen whether who we eventually end up with as our new manager, but whoever it is out of the two names linked to us, we could have no complaints as it would be a definite upgrade on our current situation.
