Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick gives the latest update on his team ahead of the Leicester City clash

Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s Premier League clash against Leicester City, as quoted by the club’s official website, Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick gave an update on his team to face the Foxes and any potential injury concerns.

This will be Man United’s first game back from the international break, which put a pause on domestic action over the past fortnight. Several of Rangnick’s stars were in action during the time, representing their countries as some nations looked to qualify for the World Cup later this year.

The interim head coach spoke about Fred and Alex Telles, revealing that they will be available for the game tomorrow and should have overcome any jet-lag problems after they flew directly back after the Brazil game.

“They flew back directly after the game. By today, they should have overcome any jet-lag problems and are available.”

Fred has been first-choice under Rangnick since the German took over, while Telles has been an able deputy to left-back Luke Shaw in the first team. The Brazilian defender has been used by the former RB Leipzig boss in the Champions League this season while Shaw has been rested or injured.

“Some calf problems”

The main injury concern for United would be striker Edinson Cavani, who is set to be unavailable following an injury he picked up while on national duty with Uruguay. The forward had to be substituted after 25 minutes due to some calf problems.

Rangnick said that the doctors had informed him that Cavani would be out for maybe four or five weeks due to injury, while all his other stars seem to be fit to feature against Leicester at Old Trafford.

“According to the doctor, he will be out for a couple of weeks, four weeks, maybe even five weeks. So we have to wait and see. That’s obviously bad news to have another striker missing out. Apart from that, all the others seem to be fit.”

Cavani continues yet another spell on the sidelines for United this season, with the 35-year-old proving to be injury-prone this term. He has barely featured for the Red Devils in the 2021/22 campaign, with various injuries taking a toll on his body and keeping him out of the team for lengthy periods of time.

Given this, Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to lead the attack once again tomorrow, with the 37-year-old taking on most of the responsibility of scoring this season due to Cavani’s unavailability and Marcus Rashford’s poor form in front of goal.

The Portugal skipper bagged a hat-trick in the final Premier League game before the international break, and United fans will hope that he carries that form into tomorrow’s game against the Foxes. Wins are crucial in our bid to finish fourth in the league table by the summer, in order to play Champions League football next term.

With Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur sitting above us, three points against Brendan Rodger’s men tomorrow would do us a whole lot of good to keep up the pace with the north London clubs and take advantage of any slip-ups over the weekend. A raucous Old Trafford will be behind the team tomorrow, and we should expect them to spur the team on in a victorious return to club football.
