Fans react to Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo winning the Premier League Goal of the Month for March

As confirmed by the Premier League’s official Twitter account, Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Goal of the Month award for March, with his strike against Tottenham Hotspur being voted the best from among the nominations.

Ronaldo scored a hat-trick against Spurs that fixture, as United temporarily paused their domestic action on a good note, as they went into the international break having picked up three precious points against the north London club in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League table.

It was the Portuguese forward’s first goal of the night that was voted as the Goal of the Month, with the 37-year-old thumping the ball home from distance. Hugo Lloris stood no chance, being beaten in the air by the pace and placement of the ball from the boots of the former Real Madrid man.

Ronaldo has his teammate Fred to thank for the goal, with the Brazilian flicking on a pass he received with the outside of his boot. The Portugal skipper would then take control of the ball after picking it from the air, before unleashing a fierce strike towards the Tottenham goal to open the scoring for the night.

Ronaldo’s strike rewarded

The ex-Juventus star’s goal was special for more than just the win, as Ronaldo also broke his recent goal drought in sensational fashion as he recorded a hat-trick against Antonio Conte’s men. It was the first treble of his second spell at United, having returned to his former employers after leaving the club in 2009 for Real Madrid.

It also ensured that the Red Devils picked up a crucial win in the race for fourth position in the league table, with Tottenham also competing for the same. With the win, the Manchester side edged closer to Spurs, now sitting only a point behind the Lilywhites.

With the international break now over, Ronaldo and Co. will be heading back to Old Trafford to continue their Premier League run by taking on Leicester City tomorrow. The team will need to pick up a win at home against the Foxes to continue putting pressure on Spurs and Arsenal, who sit above them in the league table.

The Gunners pose a real threat to our UCL qualification hopes, with the side not only sitting four points ahead of us in the table, but also having a game in hand over other sides to boost their chances of finishing in fourth place by the summer.

Hopefully, Ronaldo is able to keep up his domestic form as well, and add more goals to his tally for the season. His goals will be crucial in the coming weeks as we enter the business end of the campaign, and fans will want him to recreate his form against Tottenham in all the remaining games.
