According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are set to announce their pre-season tour this weekend, with trips to Australia and the Far East planned, also including a fixture against arch-rivals Liverpool.

Pre-season tours have been missing from the football calendars for a few years now, due to the impact of COVID around the world and travel restrictions and safety concerns meaning that clubs were unable to travel abroad in the off-season to begin their preparations for the new campaign.

However, Man United are set to jet off ahead of the new season for their first pre-season tour in nearly three years, which will delight fans in Australia and Thailand before heading home for the 2022/23 season.

Of these visits from the English giants, the friendly fixture against Liverpool in Bangkok will particularly thrill fans, given the rivalry between the two teams. Fans in the Thai city will be looking forward to the game, which is due to be played on Tuesday, July 12.

A busy pre-season schedule

Following the Liverpool match, the Red Devils will then set off to Australia, where they will play games in front of fans in Melbourne and Perth. They are also expected to play Aston Villa in Perth, which will be of two games they play in the city.

United will confirm the full pre-season schedule at a later date, which fans in these cities can eagerly wait for to find out more details. Whatever dates and fixtures are decided by the club for pre-season. They will jet back to begin their actual campaign for the 2022/23 season which begins on August 6.

The dates for games this season are slightly rushed, given the fact that the FIFA World Cup is due to take place in Qatar later this year, in November and December. The season will be paused during this period, so players can fulfil their national duties with their respective sides.

After the disappointment of the current season – albeit a top-four spot still to be fought for – we need to step up and ensure that we turn disappointing draws and losses into convincing winds next term. A new manager is expected to arrive in the summer to usher in a new era, where we get back to winning trophies.

In the meantime, it is good to see the club heading out for pre-season tours once again. Apart from it being an integral way for the side to interact with their fans outside England, it also rakes in the money for them to utilise for the benefit of the team. Hopefully, it goes into signing new players to bolster the squad.

Hopefully, the players put in the hard work during pre-season and give fans a good time when they come out to support their favourite team. The Liverpool fixture will be a big draw for crowds, and a win would set the tone for the new season to give us some confidence heading into the Premier League once again.
