Fabrizio Romano confirms injury blow for Manchester United as striker Edinson Cavani picks up knock on national duty

According to football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United are set to suffer an injury blow after striker Edinson Cavani picked up a knock while on national duty with Uruguay last night.

The forward has been representing his country during the international break, trying to help his side qualify for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year as they faced off against Chile. Goals from Luis Suarez and Federico Valverde ensured that they won 2-0 on the night.

However, Cavani was forced off the pitch with an injury before the half-hour mark, with eventual goal scorer Suarez replacing him in the first half of the match. It was highly unfortunate for the United star, who started the game up front as the lone striker.

This is set to be a massive injury blow for United, with the team already struggling in attack and unable to score goals due to the poor form of their current crop of forwards, including Cavani. It is not known as yet how long the striker will be ruled out of action, but he looks unlikely to feature against Leicester City this weekend (h/t Manchester Evening News).

Cavani injured again

Having signed for the Red Devils on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2020, the Uruguayan ace was added to the squad to bolster our attacking options. His energy and passion on the pitch made him an instant fan favourite, with fans chanting his name in games during his first season in England.

However, his second season at the club has not gone according to plan, mostly due to injury issues that have plagued him this term. The ex-Napoli man has barely featured for us in 2022, and with this latest injury, that is set to continue as Romano confirmed yet another new problem for El Matador.

The 35-year-old’s injury issues have proven to be frustrating for the club as we endure a campaign where goals have come far and few from the boots of our forwards. Despite boasting names like Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford in the team, we have failed to regularly find the back of the net.

Cavani’s injuries have put all the responsibility of scoring on Ronaldo, which perhaps may be why the Portugal skipper is looking out of form, carrying all the burden on himself. With Rashford also looking like a shadow of the player he once was, Ronaldo has had to take it upon himself to come up with the goals at the ripe old age of 37.

The Uruguayan forward is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season, and given that he has turned out to be injury-prone over the past year, perhaps it is best if we cut ties with the forward and wish him well for his future career.

For now, we can hope that Cavani returns to the pitch soon for United, in order to help us push higher up the Premier League table and finish in fourth place in order to secure Champions League football next term.
