Phil Hay suggests that Manchester United rising star James Garner is on the radar of Leeds United

Leeds United Correspondent of the Athletic (Subscription Required), Phil Hay is of the opinion that Manchester United youngster James Garner could be one of the names on the radar of Leeds United.

The 21-year-old has been touted for great things and is having a pretty great season at Nottingham Forest so far. The youngster has managed to bag three goals and six assists in 36 matches across all competitions for the Reds so far.  suggests that the youngster has all the potential to turn into a future superstar.

He seems to be growing in leaps and bounds and could even go on to be the torchbearer at Old Trafford if things go smoothly. The club will therefore have to be wary of potential suitors if they are genuinely interested in keeping the lad.

While there is no confirmed interest as of yet, Hay stated that Garner has been mentioned recently when asked about Brenden Aaronson and whether or not Leeds would pursue the American midfielder in the coming windows

Does Garner have a future at Man Utd?

James Garner has shown immense potential and we shouldn’t be surprised if our PL rivals want to snatch him off our hands. Roy Keane spoke glowingly of the youngster and it would be safe to say that the Man Utd legend isn’t one to shower praises easily.

If the 21-year-old can continue on this same trajectory he could very well become the backbone of our midfield. Over the last few years, our recruitment has failed us on several occasions as we have spent the big bucks with little to no success at all.

Maybe one of our own could help us bring back the glory days once again. Whilst Garner has shown that he has the potential to do that, the English midfielder still has a long way to go. It would be of prime importance that the club navigates his career in a proper manner.

The Man Utd loanee has shown that he is an astute player both on and off the ball and could be cultivated to fit seemingly into most systems. It would be interesting to see whether or not the new incoming manager would want to give the youngster an opportunity in the first team or send him out on another loan deal.

The fact that James Garner was only mentioned in passing rather than a concrete transfer interest would give our fanbase some respite. That being said, it should put the club on alert should any of our fellow rivals consider a swoop for him at any point in time.

The Whites are one of our biggest rivals in England and letting one of our star prospects in Garner join them would send the wrong message. Dan James did make the switch to Elland Road recently, but by that time, it was clear the Welsh winger wasn’t going to make it in Manchester.
