Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes looking for possible replacements if Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane moves to Manchester United

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), super-agent Jorge Mendes is looking to help Tottenham Hotspur find possible replacements in the event that they lose their talisman Harry Kane to suitors such as Manchester United in the summer.

Mendes is one of the most recognisable names in the footballing world off the pitch, with the Portuguese agent in charge of some of the world’s top players as well as rising stars. He also has ties with the Red Devils, given that he represents Cristiano Ronaldo, who re-signed for the club last summer.

He is also said to have a good working relationship with Tottenham Hotspur, with close links to club chairman Daniel Levy and football director Fabio Paratici. With Spurs ace Kane being touted as a possible transfer target for United in the summer, it is said that Mendes will have a busy role at the end of the season.

United are in desperate need of goalscorers next term, with Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, and Marcus Rashford blanking in front of goal this season. With Ronaldo and Cavani both past 35, and Rashford unable to establish himself in the team recently, a reliable and effective striker is the need of the hour at Old Trafford.

Approaching strikers for Spurs move

Should Kane move to United when the summer transfer window opens in a few months, Mendes has gotten himself busy and working of his own accord by approaching strikers in Europe about a possible move to Spurs. He has already held talks with Benfica’s Darwin Nunez and Roma’s Tammy Abraham regarding this situation.

However, it is important to note that Mendes will not be involved at all in Kane’s position on a potential departure. The player will enter the final two years on his current deal with Tottenham, with sources predicting that Levy will look to rake in at least £100m in order to part ways with the England international.

After a dismal start to the season under manager Nuno Espirito Santo where the 28-year-old looked out of form and short on confidence on the pitch, the arrival of new boss Antonio Conte at N17 looks to have revitalised the striker.

He was recently seen scoring a penalty for England, as he helped them to a 2-1 win over Switzerland in a friendly fixture and also equalled United legend Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record for his country. Kane will now set his sights on breaking the record of most goals scored for the Three Lions. Incidentally, another Red Devils legend – Wayne Rooney – holds that title.

Clearly, the Spurs man is in hot form at the moment, and has been ever since making his debut for Tottenham. He has consistently been a prominent fixture on the scoring charts in the Premier League, and we could do with a player like him in our attacking ranks from next season.

A lack of goals this term has seen us slip to sixth place in the league table this campaign, and in danger of missing out on Champions League football in the 2022/23 season. But with a talisman like Kane leading the line for us, we could soon make up for this gap and ensure we achieve glory across multiple competitions. That is, of course, if we manage to pull off any deal for him.
