Transfer News: Manchester United targets Ronald Araujo and Gavi reject new Barcelona contract offers

According to the Spanish media source Marca (h/t The Sun), Manchester United targets Ronald Araujo and Gavi have rejected the latest contract offers that Barcelona have put on the table. This latest update has further cast doubts on their future at Camp Nou since they have also turned down proposals in the past.

Araujo and Gavi will see their respective contracts with Barca expire in 2023. Hence, the Spanish club are keen to extend their deals and tie down their long term future. But, they are yet to reach an agreement over renewals, and the latest rejection makes it the third offer the duo has rejected until now. Both of them are unconvinced by the latest proposals as they feel “insufficient” about it.

The Catalans could be in for a headache if there are no changes, as they could be forced to offload them this summer. Man United could receive potential boosts in such a case with them currently “better placed” to sign Araujo. They have been tracking Gavi as well and could make their case moving forward.

Araujo and Gavi to Man Utd?

Despite these transfer boosts, the Red Devils still have a long way to go before they can have a genuine shot at signing the Blaugrana duo. We need to find a solution to the managerial uncertainty first and plan the structure that would need to be followed in our rebuild.

After all, we need to convince Araujo and Gavi about our future project as the current one does not look good when compared to Xavi Hernandez’s side. For that reason, it would be really difficult to convince them to move to Old Trafford. After all, Xavi has set up a surrounding where they can excel, which is evident from their recent growth.

That’s not all, as Chelsea would also be rivalling us for the La Liga duo’s services despite their sanctions. However, we have the edge over them for now since they cannot engage in transfer business due to the limitations. Liverpool are in the fray for the Spanish midfielder adding to the list of challenges that we need to overcome.

We must bring in Araujo at all costs, looking at our defensive fragility even after Ralf Rangnick has solidified the system. Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are not good enough to depend upon for longer, while Harry Maguire has struggled throughout this season. Even Raphael Varane has not reached the heights we expected him to attain.

Our midfield is more or less in the same boat with Paul Pogba expected to leave this summer for free. Donny van de Beek’s future is uncertain, while Bruno Fernandes has failed to level up his game in a tactical sense. Fred and Scott McTominay are limited technically, which calls for the need for quality injections.

Gavi can be that man and getting him for just £42million before this July is simply too great of an opportunity to pass by. The same can be said for Araujo as well, so we must use our advantage of being well placed to sign him. Whether the board can pull off the transfers or not remains to be seen.
