Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick’s consultancy role at the end of the season still unclear

According to Sky Sports, the consultancy role that is awaiting Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick is still unclear at the end of the season, with the nature of the job undecided as of yet. However, it is said that the role may not be ‘very hands-on’.

The German was appointed late last year to guide the club back into the top four spots of the Premier League table, after his predecessor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was dismissed due to a string of poor results that saw the side slip down several spots in the league table.

Whatever happens with the team by the end of the season, the former RB Leipzig man is expected to give up his seat in the dugout at Old Trafford and head upstairs at the club to assume a consultancy role beginning June 1.

Although his consultancy role has not been defined properly, it is said that there may not be a job description that involves fundamentally altering how the side is set up. It is believed that his role will be centered around sharing insights on innovation, scouting, and linking the club with bright football minds.

2 year consultancy role for Rangnick

Rangnick’s core expertise is structurally overhauling a club and implementing a sustainable, successful methodology, which is something he was working at Lokomotiv before the Red Devils came calling for a managerial job.

Thus far, Rangnick has not attended any meetings with the United hierarchy regarding his role, as senior officials want the interim manager to fully focus on trying to salvage their current season through his coaching. However, club executive Richard Arnold is said to be keen on having Rangnick’s “knowledge on tap” until 2024.

The 63-year-old has so far done a decent job since taking over, picking up wins at crucial junctures and avoiding too many defeats to see his new side still in contention for the fourth spot among many others. He most recently picked up a win in the top-flight against Tottenham Hotspur, who are also chasing fourth position in the league.

The German’s current job is only to ensure that the team finishes strongly in order for the new manager to come in and work his magic with the first team. News about Rangnick being heavily involved in the decision-making process over the club’s new permanent manager is also said to be incorrect and not part of his job description.

Having spent the last few months working extremely closely with the United first team as well as behind-the-scenes staff, the club can lean on his in-depth knowledge of the squad to determine and build a strong and progressive identity going forward to establish a strong foundation within the side.

His findings and analysis can also help the Red Devils improve recruitment, with the German capable of figuring out what sort of characters and leaders are needed in the dressing room to maintain a competitive and toxic-free environment within the team.

But it is encouraging to know that the club is apparently doing whatever they can to bring in a man that can lead this club back to its glory days. We were perhaps a little too late to realize that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wasn’t that man, and the club cannot afford to repeat the same mistake this time around.
