Transfer News: Manchester United rival Arsenal to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby
According to Patrick Berger of Sport1 on Twitter (h/t The Sun), Manchester United will face off against Arsenal to secure the services of Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby ahead of the 2022 summer transfer window. He has been sensational this season and looks to be ready to take another jump in his playing career.
The Red Devils and the Gunners are not the only Premier League clubs interested in signing Diaby, as Newcastle United are also monitoring the situation. Moreover, Leverkusen seems to have set an asking price of £50million for his signature ahead of the next season.
Not to mention, the German club are also keeping tabs on AS Roma winger Carles Perez as a potential replacement if the Frenchman does decide to leave them in the future. That could be a sign of things to come, but it remains to be seen where he would end up playing next season.
Man Utd to target Diaby?
The 22-year-old has been on a hot streak this term, having scored 16 goals and assisting nine more from 34 matches across all competitions. The winger has built on his fine form from the previous campaign and seems to be in line to develop further if he continues to maintain the current trajectory.
The Bundesliga star appears ready to make a bigger leap in his career and a move to Old Trafford could help him do just that. We have required an option on the right-hand side ever since Jadon Sancho was moved to the left-wing by Ralf Rangnick.
Marcus Rashford has not fared quite well there, while Mason Greenwood’s playing career is in uncertain waters at this moment. As such, there is a lack of choices in that position which is where Diaby could come in. The price tag may seem a bit pricey, but he has been gradually developing for quite some time now.

As such, it is understandable why the Bundesliga side have slapped such a fee on the France international considering the huge potential he has in his bag. However, we need to be wary of Mikel Arteta’s side and Newcastle as they certainly have the capabilities to pip us in this transfer race.
Let’s hope that the board can finally create a new project so that we can build towards a better future with a long term plan in mind. Diaby can be one of the targets who could safeguard our interests in such a case, but only time will tell what lies in store for us regarding our interest in the attacker.
