Fabrizio Romano confirms Manchester United have signed Brighton starlet Toby Collyer on three and a half year deal

According to football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United have signed Brighton & Hove Albion starlet Toby Collyer after contracts between the interested parties were wrapped up today.

The 2004-born player played as a defensive midfielder for Brighton’s academy, who he only joined in 2020. The youngster has already jumped ship to United, where he has signed a three and a half year deal.

Romano confirmed that the Englishman is expected to join the Red Devils youth team, where he will look to continue his impressive form during his time with the Seagulls. He surely made a strong impression during his time on the South Coast of England for a club like Man United to come calling for him.

Our youth team is famed for bringing up and developing several first-team stars over the years, and Collyer will also look to follow in the same path to break into the senior side with time.

England youth captain signed

This season as well, we have seen 19-year-old Anthony Elanga make an impression under interim manager Ralf Rangnick, while United loanee Hannibal Mejbri was also seen training with the first team as he recovered from his injury in Manchester.

Romano revealed that Collyer has already led England’s youth teams out as skipper of the side, which says a lot about how talented the player is. Along with his abilities, we are also getting a future leader amidst our youth ranks.

Carrington has always been regarded as a talent factory, developing starlets from a young age to becoming first-team regulars for years and years at United. The club has a rich history of giving youngsters the opportunities to shine.

The Class of ’92 is perhaps the side’s most famous success stories of youth development, with players like Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, and David Beckham turning out to be world-class stars for the Red Devils.

In recent times too, we have seen academy products like Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, and Scott McTominay break into the senior side and establish themselves. Elanga seems to be on his way in that regard, and a few more youngsters may be knocking on the doors of the first team soon.

Hopefully, we see Collyer also develop into a fine, young midfielder during his time with the youth teams. Defensive midfield has been a weak link for us for a while now, and perhaps we can mould the England youth player to take on the role for himself in the future.
