Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick reveals Jadon Sancho conversation after turnaround in form
Speaking after his side’s 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday (h/t Express), Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick revealed that he had a chat with forward Jadon Sancho over his initial struggles after joining the club.
Sancho moved to United last summer after spending four sensational years at Borussia Dortmund, dazzling everyone with his performances in Germany. However, the star had a rough start to life in England, looking out of form and failing to replicate his displays from the Bundesliga.
However, the Englishman has looked to be getting back to his best since the start of the new, and Rangnick confirmed the same. He also revealed that Sancho had a conversation with him about finding it hard to adjust to the intensity and physicality of the Premier League after his move.
“He told me that of course it was a problem for him to get adjusted to the intensity of the league, to the physicality of the league. Now he has managed to do that.”
The England international continued his good run in the team with yet another productive night against Spurs over the weekend, picking up an assist as he played the ball across to Cristiano Ronaldo for his side’s second goal of the game.
“Adapt to the intensity”
Sancho has now racked up 6 goal involvements from his last 10 outings across all competitions, after struggling to hold his place in the starting XI in the first few months of his United career. Now though, the player looks to have made the left-wing position his own.
Rangnick said that the winger is now closer to becoming the Sancho that he knew from the Bundesliga after finally adapting to the intensity and physical aspect of the Premier League in recent weeks. The German spoke of his delight at seeing the player perform to this level in the team.
“Jadon Sancho is now getting closer to the Jadon Sancho I knew in Germany. Sancho has managed to adapt to the intensity and the physical aspect of this league. I’m happy to see him playing at this level at the moment.”
After leaving Manchester City as a teenager to join Dortmund, the Englishman exceeded all expectations after becoming a regular and star player in the team in Germany despite his young age. After his blockbuster move to United last summer, the expectation was that he would only get better.
However, many people forget that he is only 21 years of age. Any footballer, let alone someone so young, would take their time to adjust to the fast-paced and physical nature of the game in the English top-flight.

Perhaps initially, the hype surrounding him got the better of Sancho, but now, everyone is finally getting to see why the Old Trafford side paid the big bucks for him. With age and time, he is bound to get even better in the Premier League.
His performance vs Tottenham was yet another impressive and productive outing with the team, and we can hope that he pulls out the goods once again tomorrow night against Atletico Madrid tomorrow night in the return leg of the Round of 16 tie in the Champions League.
