Transfer News: Manchester United held talks with Everton striker Richarlison to replace Cristiano Ronaldo
According to Caught Offside, Manchester United have been in talks with Everton striker Richarlison as they target him to replace Cristiano Ronaldo if the latter departs next summer. There is a growing concern that the 37-year-old would decide to leave Old Trafford at the end of this season.
Ronaldo has not enjoyed a great time with the Red Devils since returning to the club at the start of this season. He has been on a poor run of form recently, with Man United also losing ground to make it into the Champions League spots. Senior figures at the club are preparing for the departure of the superstar as they will not stand in his way should he make that choice.
Ralf Rangnick’s side have been planning ahead due to their concerns with Cristiano and have recently met with Richarlison’s agents. Another discussion was held at the start of this year when both parties went over the prospects of a move in the summer transfer window.
Richarlison to Man Utd?
It would not be a surprise to see the Portuguese international leave us if we do not end up in the top four places of the Premier League table at the end of this term. That seems to be a possibility considering our current level of performance, which was further highlighted in the recent 4-1 loss to Manchester City.
Hence, we must prepare for life past the former Real Madrid man, and Richarlison seems to be a good option. The Toffees star has scored 47 goals and assisted 12 times throughout his time at Goodison Park from 138 appearances across all competitions.
The Brazilian has been great for his national team as well, having grown his prominence over the last few years or so. The attacker could be a good option for us as he can perform even better in a stable environment where he can excel, unlike the current circumstances at the Merseyside club.

The Premier League forward currently earns a little under £5m-per year, but talks have been held for a “significant” rise should he move to Carrington. Not to mention, we would also need to spend somewhere between £60million and £70million in transfer fees to secure his services.
The cost of the potential transfer seems to be costly, but we could convince Frank Lampard’s side to negotiate for a lower amount due to their financially-stricken situation. Not to mention, there is a chance of them getting relegated at the end of this season, which opens up further possibilities of an even cheaper price. It will be interesting to see how this situation pans out in the coming months ahead of next summer.
