Mauricio Pochettino is in favour of keeping Marcus Rashford at Manchester United if he is appointed manager

According to the Daily Mail, incumbent Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is among the favourites to land the Manchester United permanent job in the summer, is likely to keep forward Marcus Rashford at the club next season, should he get the job.

The English international shocked many after news broke after the team’s 4-1 defeat to Manchester City in the derby that the forward was considering his future at Old Trafford due to a lack of playing time. Against Man City, Rashford had to make do with a substitute appearance in the second half.

It is understood that PSG made inquiries last summer about signing the 24-year-old, but the Red Devils had no intention of letting him exit. The academy product has a contract with his boyhood club that runs out in the summer of 2023.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford could be convinced to stay if Mauricio Pochettino is appointed in the summer.

The Ligue 1 club are eyeing Rashford as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who is out of contract in France at the end of the season and is widely expected to leave for free. Thus far, Rashford has not personally indicated his desire to leave Old Trafford.

Pochettino the key factor for Rashford

A new permanent manager is expected at the Theatre of Dreams ahead of next season, with interim manager Ralf Rangnick’s tenure expiring in the summer. Clearly, any decision Rashford makes on his future will be decided on what the new person in the dugout has in mind.

In the event Pochettino replaces Rangnick, it is said that there is every chance the Argentine will convince Rashford to stay as the PSG boss is a big fan of the player. Similarly, appointing Pochettino as the new permanent manager could persuade the Englishman to commit his future to his boyhood club.

Rashford is currently enduring the worst form of his Manchester United career, hardly making an impression in front of goal and barely getting any game time this season. It is hard to think that the player who dazzled us with his quick feet and driving runs is now struggling on the pitch.

Such is his current situation at the club that against Man City, when we were missing both Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani, he was relegated to the bench instead of leading the line. Having played as a striker before, the decision is sure to have baffled him as much as Man United fans.

Anthony Elanga and Jadon Sancho’s brilliant form in 2022 has not helped the England international either, with the two wide men keeping him out of the first team at the moment. Hopefully, this drives him to perform better and pick up his form soon in the business end of the season.

Only time will tell if Pochettino will be sitting in the manager’s seat in the dugout at Old Trafford next season. If it were to happen, the chances of Rashford staying in Manchester look to be very high. For now, the 24-year-old could do with rekindling his fading fire.
