Carlo Ancelotti provides positive response after Manchester United contact the Real Madrid boss

According to Duncan Castles of the Transfer Window podcast (h/t Express), Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has given a positive response to Manchester United chief Richard Arnold after the club contacted the Italian over the managerial job at United in the summer.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick will see his tenure expire at the end of the season, after being tasked with helping the team finish the campaign strongly after a midterm change last year that saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer dismissed from his post.

With the Red Devils now in search of a new permanent manager ahead of next season, football journalist Castles said that Arnold was in contact with Ancelotti a fortnight ago, reaching out to the Italian after eyeing an experienced and mature leader to lead the side to trophies.

“We can tell you that contact was from the new Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold, it took place over two weeks ago. Ancelotti was told they were interested in him because they saw him as an experienced, mature leader who’s a proven winner of trophies.”

Ancelotti is exactly as Arnold described, with the Real Madrid boss currently leading his team to the top of the La Liga table. As things stand, they are on course to win the league title by the end of the season.

“Make a difference”

United meanwhile, are in fourth place in the Premier League table as they aim to ensure they qualify for the Champions League next term. With teams below them having multiple games in hand to overtake them, the Red Devils need to ensure they embark on a winning run from here on to tighten their grip on fourth spot.

Castles said that Ancelotti has responded positively to United’s approach for him, with the Italian said to be interested in the managerial job in Manchester. More importantly, the former Chelsea man has the belief that he could turn things around at Old Trafford if given the role next season.

“He has, according to someone close to Carlo, had a long-held ambition to manage Manchester United and he believes that he could make a difference in the current circumstances.”

With a new manager in place at the Theatre of Dreams next season, the club is aiming to get back to winning ways and bring silverware back to the red half of Manchester. Their last trophy was in 2017.

An unsuccessful run of managers has also followed since 2013 after Sir Alex Ferguson, with only Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal winning major trophies with the side. Neither coach lasted long at the club despite their limited success, unfortunately.

In Ancelotti, the Red Devils are getting a manager who can boast of years of winning trophies at several clubs. More importantly, he has experience in the Premier League managing at Chelsea and Everton and leading the former to a Premier League title.

United fans will be excited about seeing their club linked to elite managers like Ancelotti, who has won the UEFA Champions League thrice as a manager. That is the total number of UCL/European Cups our club has won in history. Only time will tell whether they are successful in convincing the Italian to swap Madrid for Manchester, and take them to new heights.
