Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold wants new manager appointed as soon as season ends

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United chief Richard Arnold is keen on appointing a new permanent manager in the summer as soon as the current season ends. The club executive is not looking to waste any time in making his mark on the side.

Currently, the club is led by Ralf Rangnick, who has been appointed as interim manager until the end of the current campaign. The German was brought into the side after the club hierarchy took the decision to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a poor string of results earlier in the season.

Now, it looks like Arnold and football director John Murtough are gearing up to prepare for a massive summer rebuild as they look to usher in a new era at Old Trafford, and kick-start a refreshed era of success at the Theatre of Dreams.

The club have not secured a trophy since 2017 when Man United won the UEFA Europa League under Jose Mourinho. It was a brilliant year for the side, as they also added the League Cup and FA Community Shield to their trophy cabinet in Mourinho’s opening season at the club.

Summer rebuild planned

Rangnick has come in and done a decent job at the club, with the side only losing once in the league since the former RB Leipzig boss took over. However, he is a stop-gap option until the summer. The club hierarchy remains keen on appointing someone new to take their spot in the dugout at Old Trafford next season.

Arnold is said to want to appoint a permanent manager as soon as possible, so the new man in the job can have his say in recruiting new signings. Furthermore, the club executive is eyeing loads of replacements in the squad, with outgoing from the team expected to feasibly run into double figures.

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick will give up his role in the summer to make way for a permanent manager.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson has retired, the club has seen David Moyes, Ryan Giggs, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, and Ralf Rangnick take charge of the first-team squad. It reflects poorly on the club that they have been unable to find a long-term manager who can lead the club to glory.

Rangnick’s job currently is only to ensure that the club finishes the season strongly, and ensure participation in the Champions League football next term. The UCL is a key factor for many players to join new clubs as they want to play in the best competitions available to them, and none come higher than this.

Man United currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, which augurs well for their Champions League hopes. However, they will be looking nervously over their shoulders as there are several clubs aiming to knock the Red Devils from their place and take the UCL qualification spot for themselves.

The summer is certainly an exciting time for United fans, who are expecting loads of new faces at the club. As Arnold hopes, the best way to kickstart their summer rebuild is to appoint a new manager as soon as possible, so that they can begin to start their recruitment process to bolster the squad.
